Behind the Diamond: Prue and Alex

Continuing our series into the love stories behind our custom creations, we are so excited to share Prue and Alex's journey with you.

This very special couple combined their modern aesthetic with the whimsy of the Hollywood glamour era, to create an engagement ring that feels both vintage and contemporary. The design features a hand-picked breathtaking 1.02 carat GIA certified, carbon neutrally created pear cut diamond with halo; the split-shank band features graduating diamonds to create delicate sustainable sparkles at every turn.

What made you realise Alex was the one?

Alex is the most kind hearted genuine person I've ever met. Along with this we both have a love of beer, sci-fi and burgers and he adores my dog Coco. He is my partner in crime and often my backing board to life's ups and downs.

(since their engagement, Prue and Alex have added another furry family member, Ralphy ♡)

What's something that connects you?

We watch a lot of Netflix together (especially Sci-Fi, yes we are nerds) and our song is 'Stolen Dance' by Milky Chance.

What's your proposal story?

We went on a trip to Nelson Bay [a coastal resort town in New South Wales] and climbed the mountain there. When we reached the top, he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him! I thought he was tying his shoelace so it took me completely by surprise.

Wedding plans - a big wild party, an intimate gathering, or something in between...?

While they're still making plans for the big event, Prue assures us they'll have "A big wild party for sure :)"

Can you describe your personal style?

I'm a little alternative, so I don't like anything that's too common or something that everyone's wearing... I want my personality to shine through.

Alex selected a beautiful 1.02 carat pear cut lab diamond for the centrepiece of Prue's engagement ring. They wanted a style that would stand out from the crowd, and the pear's captivating mix of the marquise and round cuts into an elegant feminine shape, suits Prue's adventurous style to a T.

Why a lab created diamond?

I love the fact that they are both environmentally and humanitarian friendly, and also we were able to get a bigger diamond with more clarity for what our budget was. I also heard of how amazing Kim & Sue are with custom jewellery, so I had to have them design my ring.

Prue loved the look of a halo setting, and during consultation decided on a split shank with melee stones to accentuate the vintage glamour design. There are 44 diamonds in total used in the finished 18 karat white gold ring.

How was your custom experience with AïANA?
